Of legitimacy of what we receive
Watch out for bogus passwords. If you are trying to access a site and you input the wrong password and the site accepts it, Beware! This site may be bogus.
Emails from the IRS. If you ever receive emails from the IRS concerning your income taxes owed, don’t respond to it. It is a scam because the IRS does not send out unsolicited emails. Should you receive one, immediately forward it to the IRS at spam@uce.gov.
Authentic looking websites. Phishers will create legitimate looking websites that are difficult to detect. However, always check the URL for misspellings. This is definitely a sign that the site is bogus.
Phishing for bank websites. There are several fraudulent sites that imitate almost every banking institution. Sometimes the emails will have the last four digits of your bank account. Never click on any links that are provided, as they are seeking more personal information so that they may access your account. Click on your bank’s website and retrieve the email address for its fraud/scam center and forward the bogus email to the institution.
